SOLAR POWERING THE WORLD

The world's demand for all energy forms is anticipated to increase by fifty four per cent over the next two decades, according to forecasts by the US Energy Information Administration. The EIA long-term forecast also predicts that world electricity demand will soar to nearly double by 2025.
The bulk of the world’s energy comes from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas.  Their energy is released when they are burnt, with carbon dioxide released into the air at the same time. These traditional energy resources won't last forever and are not renewable and burning them leads to emissions which harm the environment, therefore there is a growing need to develop renewable energy sources such as wind, water, solar and geothermal.
The amount of solar energy that reaches the Earth's surface is six thousand times the amount of energy that we use on Earth.Solar energy has been around since ancient times, but as environmental concerns grow, so too is the popularity of solar power.
Energy from the sun is a workable alternative to the traditional energy sources of fossil fuels, and is mainly used for generating electricity and heating water.
From enormous sports stadiums and towering skyscrapers to isolated farmhouses and ordinary suburban households, solar power is increasingly becoming the cost-effective energy solution of choice. The giant new 55 000 seater stadium in Taiwan's Kaohsiung is the first stadium in the world to use solar energy technology to generate power.  Built for the 2009 World Games, the gigantic 19-hecare structure has nearly 9 000 solar panels on its roof which will generate sufficient energy to power the building’s 3 300 lights and two enormous television screens.
That is solar power on a massive level.Even on a much smaller scale however, solar power can provide a workable and cost-effective alternative to conventional energy sources for household energy needs.
According to Perth solar power specialists, Solar My World, homeowners will add value to their properties, make a positive contribution to the environment and reduce their power bills by installing solar panels on their properties. For Perth homeowners looking for solar power, there are two systems available, grid connect and off-grid.
Grid connect systems are generally installed in build-up areas, and supply solar electricity through an inverter directly to the household. When there is surplus offtake from the solar system, that surplus may be 'sold' into the electricity grid if appropriate. The other type is a standalone system which uses a battery bank for energy storage. This is used mainly in more remote areas where there is little or no access to conventional power supplies.
A benefit of a solar power system is its versatility as it can be expanded to meet changing needs and can be designed for both AC or DC applications.
Energy is the single largest contributor to the world's greenhouse gas emissions, and as environmental concerns grow, the call for people to reduce their own CO2 emissions is growing louder.By using solar energy technology to generate power, the new Taiwanese stadium alluded to earlier in this article, will prevent 660 tons of carbon emissions each year.A decision to install solar panels in our homes could just be the energy needed to save the world.
